Visiting Information

In accordance with Federal Law and U.S. Dept of Agriculture policy, this institution is prohibited from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
NEW REGULATIONS!
Due to border patrol regulations, all Canadian patrons must show their library card to cross into the United States to enter the library.

If you happen to forget or have misplaced your library card, there is no need to worry! We have conveniently opened a clearly marked door on the Canadian side for your access.

Tourists entering from the Canadian side are welcome to enter the building by utilizing the Canadian entrance.
American Visitors

Parking:
  • The Haskell has a small parking lot located behind the building on Caswell Avenue.
  • Parking is also available on Main Street, Baxter Avenue, and Pelow Hill, as well as in the parking lot of The Community National Bank.
Entrance AND Exit:
  • The United States entrance is on Caswell Avenue.
  • Please be aware that the Haskell Free Library & Opera House is NOT a border crossing. International law requires you to exit through the same door you entered.
Canadian Visitors

Address: 1 Church Street, Stanstead, QC, Canada
Parking:
  • There is street parking on Church Street
  • There are two large parking lots nearby:
    • The municipal parking lot on Phelps Street
    • FamiliPrix parking lot on Notre-Dame Boulevard

Accessibility
  • The Haskell is committed to providing access to all visitors. Our facilities are equipped with ramps and elevators to assist those with mobility challenges. If you require any special assistance during your visit, please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.
  • Passports and visas are not necessary to enter the Haskell Free Library & Opera House. However, please be aware that both the US Border Patrol and the RCMP have the right to ask to see personal identification and detain anyone who is not of legal status. We do encourage you to bring your papers with you, just in case.

A Few Rules

  • While visiting the Haskell Free Library & Opera House, all guests are required to abide by the laws of both the United States and Canada.
  • Please be aware that the Haskell Free Library & Opera House is NOT a border crossing. International law requires you to exit through the same door you entered.
  • The exchange of goods is strictly prohibited. 
  • Cross-border meetings including family reunions are prohibited.
  • Large bags and backpacks are not permitted. Please leave them in your car, at the front desk or outside the library.
  • Photography is allowed, but please remember we are a functioning library. To respect the privacy of our patrons, capturing images of them is not permitted.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted inside the building.
  • Pets are not allowed in the library, with the exception of service animals. ​
Individuals or groups who violate these rules or disrupt our services will be asked to leave.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
  • The fee for a guided tour is $10 per adult and free for children under 12 years of age.
  • The duration of the tour is approximately 30-45 minutes.​
  • Tours may be unavailable on the day of a performance.
  • We require reservations for large tour groups (more than 10 people).
  • We recommend making a reservation to ensure tour availability. 

RULES:
  • For safety reasons, all visitors to the Opera House must be accompanied by a member of staff.
  • Large bags and backpacks are not permitted. Please leave them at the front desk or outside the library.
  • If for any reason, you can’t make it to your tour, please contact us to let us know.
  • Tours are not meant for family reunions or any other cross-border meeting.
  • The guide reserves the right to remove any participant from the tour at any time without a refund if they are causing disruptions, straying, or behaving disrespectfully.

Wednesday: 10 am to 5 pm
Thursday: 10 am to 5 pm
Friday: 10 am to 5 pm
Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm
Sunday: 12 pm to 4 pm (tours only)
​Family/friend reunions (cross-border visits) are not allowed.
