125th anniversary
October 15, 1901 - October 15, 2026
The cornerstone of the Haskell was laid on October 15, 1901 by members of Stanstead’s Golden Rule Lodge, with the assistance of prominent Masons from both sides of the border, including Col. Haskell himself. The Haskell Free Library & Opera House was intentionally built straddling the boundary line that divides Canada and the United States as Martha Haskell's vision was to create a centre for learning and cultural enrichment for the border communities. Over the years, the Haskell has become more than just a library and opera house; it has evolved into a beacon of community spirit and cross-border collaboration.
